A bit of history, taken from Wikipedia :
Duck Duck Go was founded by Gabriel Weinberg, a businessman whose last adventure (the database name) was acquired by United Online (NASDAQ: UNTD). In 2006, for $ 10 million. Weinberg holds a BS in Physics and a MS in Technology and Policy at MIT. The project was initially funded by the same Weinberg and is intended to be advertising support. The search engine is written in Perl code, Nginx web server and runs mainly on FreeBSD.
Duck Duck Go is mainly based APIs for the major search engines (like Yahoo) Techcrunch because it characterizes the service as a hybrid search engine.
Some journalists have been called attention to the peculiarity of the name, in some cases have considered it silly and inappropriate for a search engine, when asked to Weinterberg on the subject, he replied that one day it occurred and as simple as you like, is clearly derived of ducks and geese but beyond there is no metaphor to explain the link with the service name. Accurate statistics on Internet use are not public, but Compete.com estimated 199.441 visitors per month in May 2010. June 11 2009, Alexa reported a rate of three months of continuous growth to 134%.
In July 2010, Duck Duck Go enabled a website to allow community of users report problems, study the media search and examine the characteristics of open source.
An alternative to Google to consider it as good as our default browser .
